Cultural Documentary
Awen Cultural Trust
The Brief
As part of the restoration project of Maesteg town hall, Awen Cultural Trust were restoring numerous paintings housed in the hall made by the famous local artist Christopher Williams.
One special canvas was discovered during this process, and Awen Cultural Trust tasked us with producing a series of short documentaries about this canvas' restoration journey, and about Christopher Williams himself.
The Story We Told
During the restoration project, a distant descendant of Christopher Williams came forward saying he'd had a canvas painted by Christopher Williams in his personal storage for 40 years.
The painting is the only known canvas that Christopher painted of his home town of Maesteg; it's existence and subsequent restoration a window into the man himself.
Using the painting as an anchoring point, we produced three short documentary pieces exploring the art, the artist, and his intimate connection with his beloved home town.
Upon completion of the town hall restorations, we connected the three short documentaries into this longer seven-minute version, which was screened at the hall's grand re-opening to an audience ovation.
Keep it between us: "An Artist, and Nothing Else" one of our favourite films we've ever produced.
